« on: July 06, 2016, 11:28:53 am »
Had an awesome weekend in the Cassidy Bridge area. Easier to post pics on ST for me so here is the trip report. I had forgotten how much rock is up there.

Hope you enjoy

Nice job!! Thanks for sharing!

Did you get to Book of Revelations too?

Have you tried to post photos using this? http://southernyosemiteclimbing.com/SMF/photo_upload.php If it sucks I would like to know the level of suckiness so I can de-suck it.

I will try posting a few when I get a chance and see.

We never made it to BoR. It looks awesome and plan to go back. We ended up scouting some crags from Google earth and put up a 60' vertical .10a on flakes and crimps. Super cool rest day spot.

So that is Miller Rock, I have several times wondered what that pretty A-shape within an A-shaped dome is called.
Nice reporting of a great time! So fun when it comes together so efficiently like that - a climb that sounds like it was meant to be climbed.

Hey Davey,
Looks like a fun time! That crag has also been called Cattle Crag, due to Cattle Mtn. being up and behind it, but I don't know anymore where I first heard the name. Brant Didden, a former guide with SYMG in the mid 90s said he and someone else climbed it back then. Here is all I got out of him in terms of a description:
"goes up the prominent left facing large flake...maybe only a pitch and a half from what I remember...Never named it as it was not that memorable."

Yep, Google earth is the ultimate cheat.  :)
Was this 60' vertical .10a loosely in the Balls area perchance? "Cool rest day spot" makes me wonder if it's a little place some of us played last year...

Cool. They prob climbed the west or south faces of Miller. A lot of features and a few flakes.

The rest day spot is near a running creek and less than .5 mile approach from the north and south. 4-6 formations of different sizes make it possible to find shade. So begins the riddle of the cave of wonders.

PS: has a rip down the middle that has some climbs that can go out of a cave/slot at about 40'

Went back to Miller this last Sunday. Had to work most of Saturday so we got up there late. It was obvious there had been rain within a few hours of our arrival. We were in no hurry on Sunday since we knew the notch would be an easier approach. Took more time than expected in the morning to leave camp since neither of us looked at a watch when cooking breakfast and getting gear ready. The meat bees came out with the warmth of the sun and really liked the sausage Paul was cooking. I left a piece out for them which made them and us both happy.

Got to the notch at 10:30. Looked to the east and saw the dark clouds forming and coming our way. The clouds seemed to already be dumping water further east so we decided to just do some climbs from the top. We wrapped down to the top of the book as it curves climbers right. Climbed a trad .10a topout that was a little crumbly up a crackle turned into a short lieback but really fun. We then TRd another line 5.8/9 that will need a couple bolts when done later. Clouds soon arrived with 20+ mph wind coming up the gorge and had us yelling and chasing gear on top of the dome. We just got down off the dome when thunder started and the rain cooled the descent.

Good time but wish we would have had time to do an entire route from the bottom. I was hoping to climb from left of the previous climb in a runnel that led to the book above the bushes. Follow it up then right and top out where we climbed. Guess it is for another day.

We also ran into a guy who was a nature watcher and he was asking about the different formations. I advised him of many including Squaw and Disappearing. He mentioned that he had always known the Squaw/Disappearing area to be called Sleeping Bear. He pointed out the features from the east side that really looked like a bear sleeping on it's back.

I was out poking around Granite Creek Saturday. Drove home Sunday morning. Some sprinkles Saturday evening.
