Big Creek

Lot there and most is beta I have is old.

From the road going into Big Creek you can take a turn and work your way down to the SJ river. There is a vertical wall that faces east about a quarter of the way down with some nice looking splitters. I have not been to it and only sw it while on bike rides climbing up to Big Creek.

I also think Million Dollar Mile should be under this as well. There is a lot of rock along that road with some 3-5 pitch walls. PO abounds though.

My buddy and I scouted MD Mile one time and went to go climb in the gorge where Steveson Creek crosses the road. At the time they were draining Shaver Lake and the waterfall and amount of water coming down about covered the entire bridge crossing the creek. We tried to cross hanging onto the rails but almost got knocked off the bridge. It was hot that day but that little ravene had it's own enviriment that day. We ended up heading back toward a huge drilled tunnel/cave where the temps were cooler inside. We spent a few hrs cleaning debri, brush and vines off the 40' wall coming out of the cave and TR the climb with intention of coming back to put in anchors. The following week my buddy and I found out the vines we were pulling out were PO. It was by far the worst case of PO I ever had. Had to take 2 weeks off of work and had layer upon layer of PO from my ears to my toes. I am terrified of that stuff now! I know Dwight Kroll and Paul Martzen have done some climbing in there. Paul also does a lot of creekteering and has taken groups down the creek rapping the huge waterfall.

MD Mile is real cool. It's been awhile since I've visited. Guess I've been lucky not to get PO. Cool to hear of your experience there, Davey.

I just read this for the first time and man, that poison oak story sounds like hell.

Tell about the splitters more. How tall?

It was horrible. FEAR the PO!!!!!

I want to say 100-200' tall ,John.  There is a large slab that looks fairly low angle above and slightly east. Just off the road is a gully with the rock face in the shadows mid day. In person it look 100-200'. At a distance I could not tell how featured the wall was but the splitters looked hand to OW. Hard to tell.

Been a couple years but if I remember right, there was 2-3 at the bottom and each one split into 2-3 going up, some joining. Looked cool. Just haven't got back there.

For sure Kenny Rose would know about those cracks, being a resident climber at Big Creek, from what I understand.

Yeah, Kenny Rose sure is the main developing name on Kerkhoff and Sunset Point in the SEKI guide. If I lived there I sure would be all over those too.

Thanks for the info. At least a pitch tall sounds good enough to me but it sounds like they are probably guarded by PO too. I get excited about cracks whenever I hear about them, especially splitters. Might take a peek down there if in the neighborhood.

It is well above the PO. The PO on $,$$$,$$$ mile is down by the river before the road turns up.
