Climbers,
Yes, it is that time of year again. Clear your calendars, clear your schedulers, tell the folks you are unavailable that weekend. The 30th Annual Tollhouse Face-Off will take place at Tollhouse Rock, above Tollhouse, CA (outside of Fresno/Clovis) on the weekend of October 19-21. There will probably be night climbing. Some people will be arriving on Friday, October 19 for night climbing. Weather permitting, we will be camping at the top of Tollhouse Rock at Cap Rock. In the event of bad weather, activities will take place at Tollhouse Road and Boroughs Mountain Road. We hope to see some Bay Area, Sacramento area, and Southern California climbers.
The event will be a benefit for American Safe Climbing Association. T-shirts probably will be available for purchase. There will be a raffle on Saturday around 5 pm. So far we have raffle prizes from Columbia, but will have others. Empty your wallets and purses for a good cause.
If planning on camping, bring water and remember that likely only propane or gas stoves with a California Fire Permit are allowed. Get the free fire permit from any Forest Service office. Unless you have a 4WD with medium to high clearance, plan on a 1/3 mile hike uphill from the parking spot to the camping spot. I also encourage people coming for the day to car pool since parking may be limited. Do not block the dirt road since this is a driveway and a fire access road. See Mountain Project or the Tollhouse Rock/Squarenail guidebook for details on how to get to the location.
I definitely need volunteers to help make this event happen. Volunteers will be needed to contact potential donors for raffle prizes, post announcements at gyms, set up on Friday (especially), and sell raffle tickets. Please contact me at markf eight four five at gee mail.com (replace written numbers with the actual number and remember Googles e-mail address format). Thanks.
