Yosemite's Southern Sister is a unique mountain refuge for people from all walks of life. For those seeking rest and relaxation, it's a peaceful oasis, away from the crowds. For the adventure seeker, it's a raw undeveloped land, inviting exploration. (taken from the linked site)

Yes it is.

Is that site for real?

Did I see George Whitmore all up in it?

My god, I am gonna but some property up there pronto.  Me and the Jones store crew are gonna hold the fort down from this barrage.

LOL.

I would encourage anybody with an interest in this issue to check out the Stop the Sierra National Monument facebook page, where the free expression of ideas, both pro and con, is encouraged. Then I would also encourage you to check out the Sierra national monument page also on facebook, where those of us who asked respectful, thoughtful questions have had our posts deleted, ourselves blocked from even going to the page from facebook, or the really humourous one where the moderater will only delete 1/2 of a conversation so it appears she is having a pleasant conversation with an imaginary friend. I have been a climber since 1970, a REI member since 1972,I started in the iron age and was even around for the changeover from goldline rope to kernmantle, which you had to dye yourself if you got it from MSR. I have climbed extensively in the Beartooths,Humbug spires, Lumpy ridge in Estes Park, Eldorado S.P.Rocky Mountain National Park, Castle rocks in both Boulder canyon and by Leavenworth WA., Peshastin pinnacles, Devils tower. Ice all over the western U.S. I have cross country skied in most of those areas as well. And I will tell you the moderator of the pro site is as disingenuous as they come, evasive answers, wholesale deleting because she was "overwhelmed". many questions remain evaded or unanswered with half answers. to give you an example, my last post before I was blocked I stated "many good people with good intentions have been induced to do the legwork for something more sinister, for this I was blocked, Go into this with your eyes open for things are not always as they seem at first glance, and I want nobody to get sandbagged in a forever situation. >:(

I wonder what the off-roaders and hunters think, I bet they don't get approached by this group.

John, I am also an offroader, as I get older , and recover from knee surgeries, a bad back ,more and more of my focus is directed toward motorcycling and dispersed camping. In fact those were the gist of my questions to the moderator on the pro monument site, motorized use and commercial thinning of the forest, extremely evasive responses is what I received. anybody who is out in the forest alot knows just how dry and overgrown it is,maybe not bushwacking uphill through slide alder in the N.W. overgrown , but overgrown nonetheless. we need to thin these forests now before a fire breaks out ,that consumes the entire damn forest. On the issue of roads, again evasive responses, like any existing road will stay, well I say and have seen existing roads and trails erased with the stroke of a pen and a gate erected soon after. I would encourage everybody to make up their own mind, and then get out vigorously on any site you blog or post on,and spread the word.

Thanks for the heads up about post-erasing and blocking posters on the pro-monument site. That is really crooked. Hopefully people reading through it will notice the lack of balance in opinions.

I can't imagine this Monument movement progressing with the overall lack of communication with the public. Personally, I am trying to maintain the attitude that they probably have the best of intentions and may think this is the best thing to do but for every question I ask that doesn't get answered I lose patience for listening to their case. Sloppy promotion doesn't go very far.

I still don't understand why they don't focus on getting the threatening bill killed, which is the main issue. As I understand it, it hasn't passed and doesn't have to if enough people get loud about it. Snuff it out and this Monument thing is unnecessary.
