29th Annual Tollhouse Face-Off, October 7-8
« on: September 16, 2017, 08:02:20 pm »
Climbers,

Yes, it is that time of year again. Clear your calendars, clear your schedulers, tell the folks you are unavailable that weekend. The 29th Annual Tollhouse Face-Off will take place at Tollhouse Rock, above Tollhouse, CA (outside of Fresno/Clovis) on the weekend of October 7-8. There will be almost near-full moon climbing. Some people will be arriving on Friday, October 6 for night climbing. Weather permitting, we will be camping at the top of Tollhouse Rock at Cap Rock. In the event of bad weather, activities will take place at Tollhouse Road and Boroughs Mountain Road. Wear a costume if you want! We hope to see some Bay Area, Sacramento area, and Southern California climbers.

The event will be a benefit for American Safe Climbing Association. T-shirts will be available for purchase. There will be a raffle on Saturday afternoon between 4 to 5 pm. Raffle prizes from Fixe Hardware (best climbing bolt provider), Kevin Daniels Publishing (great guidebooks), Metalmark Gym (whoop!), and others. Empty your wallet for a good cause.

If planning on camping, bring water and remember that only propane stoves with a California Fire Permit are allowed. Get the free fire permit from any Forest Service office. Unless you have a 4WD with medium to high clearance, plan on a 1/3 mile hike uphill from the parking spot to the camping spot. I also encourage people coming for the day to car pool since parking may be limited. Do not block the dirt road since this is a driveway and a fire access road. See Mountain Project or the Tollhouse Rock/Squarenail guidebook for details on how to get to the location.

Susan,

Sorry about the late reply, I have been doing a lot of outdoor climbing since the event, including weekday nights.  We raised $1251 for the American Safe Climbing Association this year.  We were also able to hold the event activities at the top of the rock.  Last year we had to hold the event activities along Tollhouse Road because of the poor weather.

Sounds like quite a success - good on ya Mark!

Curious where have you been getting out to these days. We haven't seen you since those couple of times out at the res!
