Here's a cool one

pumice?
-
Pure coolness with weird inclusions.
Or granite.
-
These are "waterfalls" of quartz on Big Sleep. Very slick under the shoes too.

I recognize the formation in your first shot from an old b/w photo I found online once - taken just north or northwest of the summit of Disappearing. Neat weathering.
-
We called it "Pudgy Penis Pinnicle" and always wanted to climb it. Someone put 3 bolts on it 2 years ago so maybe abandoned? It is by Disappearing Dome.
-
Jerry, how tall is that pinnacle? Looks totally grainy, no?
-
It looks grainy but it is actually really cool rock, featured and solid as far as I could tell. It's about 60' tall.
-
That's neat, Jerry. Here is a little obscure arch at the Balls. Big enough to walk under, I seem to recall.

With those dikes I know exactly where that picture is Susan but I'm not telling!
-
Hah! Well, this one got finished this weekend. 5.8. I'll tell you more if interested. The end of the 2nd pitch is a little run for my taste, and I'd like to go back to do it again and probably add one bolt up there. Otherwise, it's just a really fun route. 2nd pitch above the boot is like the melting wall.
-
This one made me think of "Where the Wild Things Are." Looks like a friendly character from that book.

Susan that last one looks like a turtle's head. Love this thread. Going to have to keep my eye out now.

They're everywhere...

Reminds me of Alien
-
Poor Sue, having to deal with me. She shows me the photo and says "isn't that cool?", Me- "uh, I don't see it". She then points out every feature...I am still sitting there drooling a little and my lazy eye is wandering off....."uh, sorry". She puts a pipe on it and even had a top hat at one point and I am finally seeing it. Poor Sue.
-
Awesome, Pipe smoking aliens.
-
My 5 year old son was seeing all kinds of things in the rocks and boulders on a hike this weekend. Too bad I didn't take many pictures, although I might be able to dig up one.
It sure did warm my heart when he once spontaneously said, "I love planet earth, it's so awesome!"
-
5 is a great age Nate. Enjoy it.

Tottering Chosspile for sure!

Speaking of a good looking tottering chosspile....

I know where that is. It is sorta near the rock in Sue's last photo. Sweet bouldering with soft landings.
-
That needs to be summited.

Here's a shot I took on Halloween - for the zombie plan

mmmmm...pancakes
-
You really take fabulous pics, Mark!
-
Nice angle Mark T! Great area up there.
-
Really like that photo of the tree & rock by Mark T - the way that tree grabs the rock is something else.

This shot was the first I saw of that ♡ shape in the rock. It's so clear yet subtle. Will be fun to complete and name. There's at least a couple of ways to go too at around that point reached in this shot.

this looks like the rock in Dan's recent pic. Right trending dike. Must be hard if climbing left of it. The natural line calls for an attempt on the dike.
-
Munge, I believe the photo you refer to is Condor Rock a much larger formation.
-
I am curious if anybody has seen the rocks I posted pictures of on the previous page.
-
There's probably like 7 of us total on the site. Nah
-
Dude, there is at least 9 people. Gah!
I only have guesses about those, Dan.
-

It's the heart in the shot that had me posting this one here.
Those are interesting boulders in your photos Dan - don't know the whereabouts myself.
-
I haven't seen those ducks
-
Nor I. But haven't seen squat.Did you climb them Dan?
-
No, no climbing. I was solo, pretty far from the car and nobody knew where I was so I figured a broken ankle would be too much of a bummer. One rock, which is the highest point of the whole area, looks like a 20' easy bouldering problem. I could have scrambled up it but was too scared of the down climb to do so. The nearest higher point is aver a mile away. Might be the first ascent of a genuine high point waiting. It certainly isn't Everest but I'd like to do it "because it's there." Let's go.
-
Very cool! I'm in. When? 3rd weekend in Sept?
-
If you do, stop Lunesta after.
-
Definitely!
-
Seriously be good to see you all at Lunesta - it is a great time!
-
We should get everybody to go - make the biggest ascent of the littlest summit. Human pyramid.
