Title: I bet this would go...

but going up the black streak more. I think first bolt off stance. Second off hero loops placed by a tall guy. Third off hook or desperate zen stance, etc.

That thing is haunting you, isn't it?

You appear to have the SoYo bug.

Completely torn.

Two projects to complete (just need to lead them clean 10c crack and 11d dyno), then I can free myself from the chains of the SPH.    :o

What are you dyno-ing to? Hope it's not a crimper. Maybe a season ripening in Shuteye will do you good for that one?
Title: Re: I bet this would go...
Post by: mungeclimber on April 15, 2013, 09:24:47 pm
The project goes from undercling layback move with feet pasted high, to a full disengaged dyno on a point that has a small scoop on it. low percentage move.

I think it's SPH this coming weekend. I gotta get that stuff done or someone will lead it before me. It's got the extra bolt on it now, so I won't die.

Well, go get it! Sounds tough but like you're almost there.

Hey Munge, you getting back on this one soon? Did you finish your "dyno" project on SPH?
Title: Re: I bet this would go...
Post by: mungeclimber on April 25, 2013, 10:42:43 am
Gotta go back to SPH for the project this weekend. :(

I'd like to get on something down there if it's not too hot, but if you want to get on it, go for it. Since I already TR'd the line immediately left of the new route, my ascent wouldn't be ground up for that. So if you do it G/U like I know you will, that should take precedence.

Aaron TR'd the more left line, so I don't think he would mind?

I was just wondering if you were planning on getting back out there. You don't have to worry about me climbing it.

Hope you record sending your dynamic project on video.

Ditto - would like to see that video/photos. Will hope to get back down to this area yet again. Y'know as the weather warms, it's not a bad place to hang out by the water and get in some late afternoon early evening climbing.

That's a good idea. Meant to run tonight, but work was a b. I will have to send on willpower alone.

Hey Munge, we just realized this weekend was your last chance for a while because of the closures for deer migration. Mammoth Pools is closed to anything motorized from May 1 to June 15th. Hope you weren't planning to get back soon.

Post by: mungeclimber on April 28, 2013, 11:52:38 pm
thx for the reminder. I was thinking of going back there. And memorial weekend too. I think it is now an SPH weekend for memorial since I can't take mrs munge to the slabby goods there.

I dunno. Thoughts?

It is possible that there is a little more rock out there than just at the pools.

Maybe some bouldering somewhere.

At least the views should be nice if there isn't any more rock...and the fishing is good.

What should be on the agenda for a visit with the missus?
Title: Re: I bet this would go...
Post by: mungeclimber on April 29, 2013, 02:11:48 pm
slabby, featured, moderates.
No mosquitos at crag or campsite.
Not hot. Cool to cold temps.

That's why I was thinking maybe the Ridge, but the SE crew tends not to go to the ridge, no?

Title: Re: I bet this would go...
Post by: John on April 29, 2013, 02:53:53 pm
Sounds like the Balls would be right up your alley.

Slabby,featured, moderates...check

Cold to cool..hard to tell, but the Balls is at about the same average elevation as the summit of Shuteye Ridge so it is generally much cooler. Much cooler than anything slabby on Shuteye from about right now until fall if you really hate heat.

Mosquitoes are not really a problem but that depends on where you are I guess, and the year.
Title: Re: I bet this would go...
Post by: NateD on April 29, 2013, 08:07:26 pm
I've never really encountered mosquitoes up high at the Balls. Meat bees sometimes, but that's usually later in the season, I think.

The Balls can get really hot, facing mostly south. It's possible to chase shade at a few of the domes.

There is some roadside bouldering...

Sounds like you are looking for a group gathering, but we haven't heard of any. If you plan it, people will come. If intetested in making a plan, we could happily rally but it seems we are it...  unless others pipe up, so let's pm about it.

Otherwise, we tend to like to play it by ear as far as deciding on a place bc of as yet unknown conditions. Still, not prolly possible to have all the points on the agenda fully satisfied all the time but as far as mosquitos... Usually been clear of those high on the ridge. Esp. at windy Big Sleep, and nearby are all those formations you expressed interest in exploring.

It has already begun to get hot out there anywhere there is no shade and little wind even at roughly 5-6k. Makes me wonder how hot it could get for those going down to Balloon Dome in a couple weeks. Mammoth pools wind was blowing warm to hot already.

Hey Munge-
The driving ban at Mammoth Pools is over this weekend and the deer party is ending. Just an FYI.

Not 100% sure yet but it's not looking like it for this weekend. Are you?

Did hear somewhere that there could be a good size turn out through 4th of July. Something about people wanting to crush and get some etc.? :D

Big congratulations again, Munge!!! I wondered if you weren't quite back to normal yet and can't wait to hear all about it. Was wishing we could have been around to help out on the hike down. We were just coming into reception several hours after seeing that post of yours though.

raw hip wound is healing. but mostly just hands. Some bruises elsewhere but minor. Overall tired factor is high.

The urge to eat and restore calories has been huge the last couple days.

Nice.
I like how you are still adding more and more to your unfinished trip report. It is like having to wait for the ending to a TV show the next week. Great suspense!

Only one way to find out, Kiddo. Can't say that the approach is the reason you haven't gotten back there.

There are two left lines.

what surprised me, was how tacky the rock was there.

Munge, I didn't know you could climb so fast until that lightning cracked right after you left the ground. It was like you were on a bungee cord!

Good times for sure.

Post by: mungeclimber on July 21, 2014, 09:50:46 am
Lightning and I don't go well together.  :-[

Figured it was going to rain soon, and Bela wouldn't want to climb it soaking wet.

But I realized how fast I was climbing it, and then it occurred to me that it wasn't as hard as I thought.

still thinking 9ish, but will want to lead it when it is cooler temps.

I never know which is harder... hand drilling a quarter incher, or bosching a long 3/8"

They both go quickly. Those little 18v rotohammers seem pretty shweeet tho.
