Title: Lunesta Fiesta 2020
Post by: DaveyTree on March 04, 2020, 02:26:22 pm
Save the dates! July 31-Aug 2.

Still deciding on the location. Courtright and Balls were fantastic spots. Fresno Dome is always an option since we haven’t been back in a few years. Shuteye is also a good option but many don’t have 4wd, only God knows why, so it would lend to Lost Eagle, Chilkoot or Big Sleep areas. How is the road to Gray Eagle area? It’s been a long time since I was back there.

Other options could be Morro Rock or other Areas in Sequoia. The area where Crystal Wall is has a bit of everything as well with plenty adventure areas to be had.

Anyone have any preferences or other ideas?

Honestly I love the venue of gray eagle camp for parties even though it easily turns into mayhem. Maybe that’s why I like it. Party=mayhem=good math. So much good climbing there and a variety with a little adventure. That time of year it’s good to have shade options which it has.  And you can just stay put once there. No having to drive anywhere. That said, yeah it’s got challenges for non-4wdrivers, but not insurmountable if there are piggybackers to help each other get up there. There are a few in any given group who have agreed with me strongly about this while there are a few who totally disagree.

Lost Eagle is just a beautiful spot that I’m sure many would appreciate being introduced to but again the camping is kind a mayhem...

Lunesta Fiesta will be at Fresno Dome again. I have been to busy to work out details for a new location and we haven't held it there for 3 years. Gray Eagle will be 2021.

So....July 31 - Aug 2nd. We will be camping at the Fresno Dome trail head. I will again be bringing the stuff to make everyone some duck tacos and Paulie will be making the home brew for donation.

I currently have a cool design, by Scott Jett, for the T-shirt that he gave me a few years ago and I saved. ANy thoughts on a long sleeve v. short sleeve? Haven't done the short sleeve yet.

We will not be a able to have a campfires.

I have tested the test batch blueberry cider that will be made and brought by Joe. (10 ga.) It will be enjoyed by all. Tacos will be Saturday Night.

Hi all, was at the Fresno Dome parking lot last night a bit windy and a big branch fall on my friends truck, no damage but the parking lot/trailhead maybe not be a good place to have a party and camp, the trees there are a little scary!!! just my thoughts on that, happy climbing Mike A.

But how do you know you tested it sufficiently? You should go back and be sure!

If necessary, I can provide a shipping address for off site testing. You know... for safety purposes.  8)

Oh Munge, you will like it. It will a perfect refresher after climbing.

Wow Mike, just missed you. We got up there late Thursday night and returned Sunday this morning. Never had anything fall even when the wind picked up Saturday night.

Always a great time up there. Met and invited numerous other climbers to the Fiesta.

Mike A., Forgot to mention, the other weekend I was up there and watched a couple guys climb the first two pitches of Papa Bear before heading left to belay under Apple Jack. I got to watch repeated attempts of those bottom moves by the leader who finally stuck the heal hook lock off to the jug. Quite entertaining. I saw them back at the lot, both were young guns, and I complimented them on the send.

Sorry your not going to make it. Always a good time.

Going shopping today for the duck tacos ingredients for Saturday night. We are bringing a Peach and a Blueberry Cider a long with Cedar Light, Metal Mark Amber and First Pitch Single Hop Pale Ale.

Looking forward to seeing those who show, even if it is only for a day.

As usually we had made new friends while old ones showed. I always love the random climbers who came up to climb only to find they chose the perfect weekend. Missed those that didn't show but always next year. Got in a lot of climbing. The beer and duck tacos were a hit as always. The shirts turned out awesome and have some left if anyone interested. John can post a pic I sent him.

There was a documentary going on Friday about two local climbers ladies and how climbing affects their lives in a positive way. They spent most of the day on Whiskey Bill with fixed lines and plenty of pics and drones. The film will be a part of the Big Tell film contest. Paul and I were cruising up South Pillar at the time and a coupe friends, John and Laurel, help set the fixed line.

Looking forward to next year already.
