Hi all, finally back from 6 weeks in Alabama. Soo good to be home and to see the mountains again. Wasn't able to climb at all and quickly saw the down side to that this week in the gym. Heading to Yosemite on Sunday. Looking forward to getting back in the woods.
Where have you all been storing nuts this winter? With very little snow it seems much should be open already.
-
Welcome back! All I can offer is that Minarets rd is open to just past Jackass and I bet we could have made it to near Piyau by this weekend.
Chiquito was perfect last weekend, it will be too warm there in no time.
-
Ooh, valley on Sunday? Might see you.
-
John, you make it up there? We were on El Cap base routes. Awesome day but I could definitely feel my 2 months off of climbing.
-
Ended up working all weekend so didn't get to go. I bet it was beautiful weather Sunday.
Did people still try to show up for the firefall? I saw articles around the web saying that Horsetail falls wasn't flowing so don't come but it still looks cool even without the water so who knows. We saw it two weekends before and it still lights up but a little less without the falls. We didn't see more than three people that weekend.
-
Definitely seemed like people were there for it.
-
Alabama jama! Except there isn't much rock there. :(
Have contemplated a road trip through the south, but seems like a lot of hot muggy weather during the summer and not much rock.
Autumn maybe.
-
Summers are nothing but muggy in Bama. Not much rock to speak of. A few 50’-100’ bluffs here and there. Saw more in Tennessee on our hike with no signs or development. Seemed like a cool spot with water flowing in the creek and plenty of camping spots. Nothing like what we have here.
Yosemite has been fun the last couple of weekends having the climbs mostly to ourselves on El Cap base. I have been getting my ass handed to me. More people start showing around noon.

Nice! You know that’s what yosemite and crack climbing does for me. Am in sore need.
Wasn’t the forecast bad for last Sunday? Did it pan out? It is about time for us to get back to it too, but weather does not look like it’ll cooperate this weekend. Yet.
-
We got in there on Saturday last week end and just beat the cold and snow dusting. I def found I am lacking on a few techniques when we climbed Stacher Cracker. Felt like a fat noob on that thing. I look like I was in a street fight hahaha. My knees especially are sore and bruised from that upper OW part.
Once the weather starts cooperating we will probably head to other places to get away from the growing crowds.

Sacherer is awesome and hard - so steep. Yeah I am certain it would slap me down just for looking at it right now lol.

Had a fun romp last night up Free & Easy at Tollhouse. Had to take in the full moon as it was the closest to earth it will be for the year. The moon played hide and seek with the clouds most of the climb. Great way to finish a Monday.
-
Good on ya for getting out.
-
I noticed the full perfect round moon when I was taking the garbage out that night. For a few minutes it had me thinking of climbing under it. Very glad to hear you were.

Hope you all are doing well in these weird times. With the closing of the gym in Fresno for COVID I can feel me getting softer. My saving grace is that duck season is currently going so I am still able to get out every weekend. Harvest has been a blast and duck tacos will be plentiful come climbing season. My pup Starlord is now 13 months and he is coming along nicely as a waterfowl dog.
I am really looking forward to this coming spring/summer to do some backpacking with him. Anyone have any suggestions on packs for dogs?
I would imagine the valley, Fresno Dome and Courtright will be plenty busy since they did not burn. Boneyard made it through without being torched as well. Looking forward to getting back on the rock. Paulie and Fred have a couple very cold trips to Alabama Hills driving separately.
I still plan to have Lunesta Fiesta which will be June 25-27 at Courtright. Plenty of room to distance at camp and climbing.

Hanging in. Miss being able to rally with friends for a pint.
Got some rides in, but now the low snow has me thinking about getting out of state.
Even crazier I have been thinking about going to Yosemite and living in a cave.
Cheers all!

We happened upon east side Soyo up Minarets hearing from a friend that it was open only to find out later that maybe it was not meant to be open. While it was a sight for sore eyes, the fire scarred landscape did make sore eyes sorer.
I mean it is quite the mess for the most part from all the fire damage. You can see for days through blackened matchstick forests. While it’s nice to see the rocks we’ve climbed for years in such plain sight, and the Sierra crest views eternal, the place will need a lot of time to green up, to say the least.
Approaches to climbs on very steep ground may be a real mess to maneuver for a long time to come. Lots of monstrous fragile trees to fall down yet and landslide potential where everything you want to grab to steady yourself could be loose and certainly will blacken everything. Best Not to wear the Sunday best or brand new Patagucci. Probably best to go with more than one couple of people in more than one vehicle for the next little while just to be on the safe side if just can’t stay away.
Glutton for punishment, I do wonder how things look at the Balls and LE yet and hope to see all that sometime in spring whatever is to be found. I suppose in time we will make new trails, new camps and still find freedom there, so I therefore dub thee Soyo a beautiful land still and yet.

I am still looking forward to when I can get up there.
