I made a topo of the left side about a couple years ago so I thought I would share it. More recently Dwight Kroll made a great topo for the Courtright Guide showing the entire formation so this one is less useful but here it is anyway. You'll have to buy the guide for the details!

dude! it doesn't even have your new lines?
-
Which one exactly?
-
Both. Unless there was more than two?
-
We only have three: Poppy, Creamsicle and Hopscotch and they are on there.
-
What was I looking at?
May be mistaken on my route names. Carry on.
-
Hopscotch is new! Wasn't that something you and I eyeballed the year before, Munge?
-
Hopscotch is one of those that I wouldn't be surprised if done before.
-
Not recalling which year was which.
You eyeball everything Dave. :)
But I think you may be thinking of the face left of Hopscotch, if I squeeze my brain for recollections.
Hopscotch uses the best natural crack features on that right side, but before going too far to the right into the chimney climbs. It goes up to a roof, turns it on the left and then up some magnificent terrain up high, from what I recall John and Susan telling me of it as I looked at it from the base at the end of one of the days.
Btw, Hoffbrau creekage and I'd be willing to bet the springs on the map will be running good this year. I doubt we'll have snow for Gatoritas, but you never know. :)
A recon hike to suss out water, then detail the trip out. September middish.
BAM!
-
Def will try to make it this year
-
cool Daveytree. You have any vacuum sealed duck meat from the region you could truck out there?
I would be stoked to do an Elderberry glaze/confit. Though my Elderberries have been in the freezer for multiple years in regular ziplocs.
Best not to kill anyone with my berries. But imagine if we picked them fresh on the way in to the camping? Smoosh them down, rendered in some sugar and duck fat?
John, do you have a topo for the right side?

John, do you have a topo for the right side?
I didn't draw a topo for the right, but I thought you made an overlay?
-
I did, but I like the pdfs. :)
-
I have a ton of vacuum sealed duck and goose. I would be happy to bring some out. Really looking forward to making it this year.
-
Nice!
Reminds me of a game Duck Duck Goose.
-
Good name for a route, juss sayin.
-
anyone been out here this season. How are the trails and access after the fire?
We are planning on returning in a few weeks to climb the obelisk and maybe get a day at Hoffman.
-
I was at Hoffman last October, trail was fine. Bushwhack to the base
-
No bushwhack required. Honest.
Wanted to get out there this weekend, but kinda of glad I'm not since I've got open projects to wrap elsewhere.
Split, send me a message about which day at Hoff. I could make it out for a day after the 16th and can show you the new goods.
-
Really no bushwhack? Its possible I did not go the correct way. I basically B-lined from the trail up to the base of the Golden Pillar direct, I recall some seriously thick manzanita. If there is an easier way, I would love to hear it!
-
stay way right on open slopes aiming for the trees on the right of the ferned slope. As you walk above these tress cut back left and then left into the gully up high. There is a trail at this point to left side of the flake at the base of the tower. I'll try and map it for you later.
-
quick version, doesn't show where the approach really takes you when you within the last 50 yards or so, but you get the idea of how it goes from trail camp to the right and cuts back left above the big forefather tree, then up the left side of the gulley. Very pleasant way to approach and descend.

So pretty that perspective and shot... Nice overview too!
Ugh what the Rough fire must've done to the view looking out from the top of Hoffman to the Obelisk. Would really like to see some photos of the area before deciding whether to head out there too soon.
-
Yeah that approach is pretty free from any real bushwhacking if you take Munge's path.

Hoff didn't burn. Just the area to the south. Don't let the southern view shed ruin a perfectly good idea.
-
That's very helpful, I'll try that approach next time!

Munge -
So, what did you have in mind this year? The back side of the pillar on the far left side? Anything else? The only other spot I can think of would be the face, just left of Hopscotch, as you and I looked over. A single pitch variation to Red Tail.....
-
Thought you were done with it?
-
Hah never say never
-
"Thought you were done with it?"
Yes. Tapped out IMO. Too much open territory elsewhere.....

Have you guys ever considered climbing established routes?
Hear that? That's the sound of your mind being blown
-
[Neo voice] WHOA! [/Neo Voice]
-
Certainly.....the kind I establish on FA's. 8)
Double-mind blow.

But everything's alright I'm sure. :)

Going in. I may need to repeat The Worst Route at Hoffman!
