Over the years, I've had the pleasure of dragging a fair number of mostly willing partners into the Hinterlands for some good climbing fun. I imagine many of you have done the same, despite the blank looks regarding whereabouts, and the lack of hype. I really owe these fine fellas for their positive attitude and willingness to drive a long way at odd hours for a wee bit of climbing, often on short notice.
John is always psyched, and is known to drink nuts.

Paul has a keen eye for potential.

So let's see some more less familiar faces of those you've convinced to visit this stellar home away from home, and are maybe even on their way to becoming regulars. The welcome mat is out.
I'll post some more later...

pretty sure we sold the Chriz (a buddy from SPH/bay/scruz crew) on soyo.
"what's that?!" looking at Balloon
-
Chriz gets huge props for coming on a long "beyond the gates" excursion we went on this winter. Looking forward to seeing him back out there this spring.
I think Munge should get a ribbon for most enthusiastic addition to the Soyo regulars last year. It was only after the "full" tour did he really start freaking out.
Looking forward to spring with you guys!(Not that it doesn't feel like spring already)

When is Munge ever NOT enthusiastic?? Make him a ribbon indeed! I assume the "full" tour went beyond Shuteye, but curious what was on the complete list. (I'm now imagining a band's concert tour t-shirt with the list of all the cities on the back.)
Dan, Jerry, Davey and others certainly invite a lot of visitors as well, it seems...
-
I will tone down my rhetoric.
well, at least try to...

That guy doesn't look like he is having a very good time.

Yeah, I bet he's never going back to SoYo.
-
Victor was shitting his pants at the awesomeness that is SOYO!
-
Victor! Now there is someone to watch this season. He sure bagged some classics this last year.
And we are all learning how to swear in Russian too!
-
Pics?

Here is Vic in action. I think he took a fall trying to hand drill a bolt from stance soon after this shot was taken. I believe he said something like, "ya,ya,ya,ya,ya!" as he was falling. Hella funny.

BTW I really like the term "irregulars" in the title of this thread. I feel like I fit into this category.

Yup, nice meeting Paul and Thomas, Nate.
Here is a shot of Kristin who did really well on Wanderlust.

Here too is a photo of John on left putting up Bitch Kitty, and our friend Alex in the middle on Wanderlust. Right is I believe Jeff on When Dreams Come True. At the time, this was the most people we had seen climbing there all at once.
-
Also, there were a couple of times Ed Hartouni joined us, once with Jaybro. Always a great time!

Some nice shots of Ed on, you guessed it, Wanderlust. What can I say this climb hits it out of the ballpark for star rating.
And on Skywalker

Mostly scenery, usually too scared, but we love it up there. This will be our fourth season—have never seen anyone actually climbing, so far.

Welcome, Mark T.
Four seasons without seeing anyone climbing must be some kind of record! Are those shots from the Fire Lookout Trail?
-
Wow, Mark, those are some sweet pics! Is that climb Sunset Shaman at Dreamscape?
4 years makes you a regular IMHO.
-
Very nice photos Mark T. That climb in the first picture does look familiar, like one we tried last year at Dreamscape. Great that you can get your truck to the top of the ridge. Minus the garbage in places, it is great fun to camp and crag up there.... If we like a spot, we spend a little time picking up the place. Can practically belay out the back of the truck some places if you like.

Thanks! Over the past few years, we’ve poked around, probably on the usual newbie stuff: a little on Tollhouse, Fresno, Big Sleep, Boulder Garden. Yes, that is Sunset Shaman, from our first trip—as are the pix from partway up the road to the lookout.
We did make it to the lookout, without much damage to the Tacoma. I’ve been climbing for lots of years—though timidly, and without much improvement. But we really like the exploring, the remoteness, the dome-climbing, the super featured granite, all the thing you all know already. We had a nice little mini-epic last year coming down the wrong way from Big Sleep after simuling Afternoon Nap to do a little route on Midway.
We’re hoping to get up to Milky Way Wall, and maybe Eagle Beaks this early season. After wandering around a bit every summer (last year we spent a few trips on Sonora Pass) I think we’re pretty much planning on concentrating on Shuteye. I really admire the spirit and enthusiasm you have for it.

Welcome Mark,
I’ve been climbing for lots of years—though timidly, and without much improvement.
Sounds like me.
I also like to avoid crowds which is how I "discovered" the area. I first climbed here after I saw and bought the Spencer guide in about 1990 or 1991.
Hope to cross paths with you one day.
-

I have to agree on that - a real winner. You are going to have to start contributing to this thread also, Mark:

I'm resigned to mediocrity in climbing, but it sure doesn't keep me from having a lot of fun out there!
-
I will certainly contribute photos. Now, I just need to get up there, so I can take some.
I have made friends with my mediocrity.
A climber’s “fun” has been—at least, traditionally—a little out of sync with the rest of the world. Southern Yosemite keeps that spirit alive, I think. For me, anyway. I really appreciate that.
Thanks, all. I’m the guy with the white hair driving a silver Tacoma.
-
hi climbers, it seems like most climbers have a tacoma :-), mine is black with a black camper shell, or they have a suby!!!lol

Ain't that the truth!
I am often found in a dark green Saturn station wagon... on the handful of days that I manage to get up there every year.
-
I'm in the silver 4Runner, running boards removed and 2" lift.

zactly.
the philosophical debate usually comes with what top of topper to buy for the Tacoma and how to trick out the bed/camp/storage in the back. lol

And the bugs?
:D

Very nice photos - the bathtub especially!
