Notwithstanding that I don't own a snow machine, yet...
How often is the Minarets road open to Mammoth Pools?
Is it Prather ranger station that we should call to know if the gate is locked?
-
Minarets is only gated past the Mammoth Pools road so in theory it is open year-round but access to Mammoth Pools depends on how much snow is on the un-plowed roads. The next gate down is about a mile from the dam and I think it only gets locked for deer migration but not sure. You could hike to the dam from there if it was locked.
Call the Bass Lake Ranger district in North Fork. Good luck.

Thx John!
That's what I like to hear.

Snow can linger in the shadows not far beyond Mile High Vista, making the road impassable at times, from what I understand.

how much is it to mount a blade on a truck? :P
-
we need a snow mobile with sled
-
Good one! Now if only we could build a log cabin to get to by snowmobile and sled.
-
How about that hail!
Good times.

It officially felt like Fall to me this weekend. Snow on the distant peaks, rain and hail, gloves, thermals....its happening again.
-
Nothing like a open bivy during the first hail storm of the year..
HeyHEP!

"They say the darkest hour, is right before the dawn." That's when we noticed the rain and hail. I popped out of the truck for a minute wondering what happened to you Yeti.

Grahm is selling a snowmobile if you are serious

How many people will it tow on a sled? :)
