Campfire Ban for Sierra NF - Summer 2013
« on: July 01, 2013, 09:53:15 am »
Kinda sucky.

http://www.sierrastar.com/2013/06/27/63387/extreme-fire-danger-means-no-campfires.html

I can't find a single mention on the Forest Service site about this. In fact, it specifically says there are no restrictions. Check it out:http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/sierra/recreation/camping-cabins/?cid=fsbdev7_018117

There are fires allowed in some campgrounds only.

There is a list of those approved campgrounds in this document:http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5427487.pdf

Yeah, I called the FS in North Fork before the 4th.  They said fires are restricted to specific campgrounds.

Maybe the big fire that is there now will keep us all warm?

Supposedly caused by lightening. Heard the east side around Mammoth was getting badly smoked maybe even more than the west. Hope it's contained soon.

I understand the fires are all east of the san joaquin but headed west and there is zero containment. Tstorms and temps in the upper 90's in the meantime can't be helping either.

Damn,  I have a chance to get Saturday off, was dreaming of getting out to Gray.    Gotta be very smoky out there.   A lot of that smoke is going  up the drainage to Monys work.

Here is the fire info:

http://www.inciweb.org/incident/3552/

Just back from SoYo and viz about 200 yards at the Balls and even here in Ahwahnee viz less than a half mile most of the day. Of course that can change if the wind changes or picks up.

Thanks Jerry. I have been looking for a map with an outline of where the fire is and this is the first place I have seen one. Most of the campgrounds they closed are west of the canyon. Oh, oh, not good.

What's up soyoers? I'll try to post some pics later and any updates I hear from the fire crews. Had to close the windows last night cause the smoke is thick.
