Railroad Fire, Sierra National Forest (NF), California [Click link to jump to Inciweb]

Thanks Mike, that's good to hear! NOAA forecasts a 20% chance of T-storms today before 11 and then the heat ratchets to 98 degrees. Hope this gets under control quickly!

Here's a rundown on Inciweb's report:

Quote
The Railroad Fire started August 29, 2017 at approximately 1300 hrs. West of Highway 41, near the community of Sugar Pine, South of Yosemite National Park and Fish Camp.

It is a vegetation fire burning on the Sierra NF. The fire is burning in steep terrain, with difficult access and heavy fuel loading. Potential for this fire is high.

Mandatory evacuations are in place for the community of Sugar Pine and Sugar Pine Camp with an evacuation advisory for the community of Fish Camp.

There are 100 structures threatened.

Highway 41 is in a hard closure from Cedar Valley Drive to the South entrance to Yosemite National Park. Yosemite visitors are to use Highway 49 and Highway 140 for entrance to the National Park.

Presently the fire has consumed approximately 920 acres and is 5% contained, cause of the fire is under investigation. Reduction in acreage due to more accurate mapping. Reduced wind speeds and temperatures moderated fire behavior allowing fire crews to make good progress last night.

Resources on this fire consist of 26 Fire Engines, 7 Hand Crews, 2 Helicopters, 3 Air Tankers
Total Personnel: 350

Assisting Agencies: CAL FIRE, Madera County Sheriffs Office and Madera County Fire.

Additional resources are on order.

Today at approximately 1000hrs a Type 2 Incident Command Team (IMT), will take over the incident command from the Sierra NF.

Resources may be pulled from the two fires yet to be contained enough in Yosemite, though, and then there's the Pier fire in Sequoia that just began, and a few fires in Inyo. Yet depending on which way the wind blows hopefully it won't be too bad in the Soyo...

then there's the Pier fire in Sequoia

Yah, that bad boy is becoming a monster!! Woke up to a layer of ash on the truck this morning. Rene Ardesch posted on the Taco Truck......the smoke cloud looks like the Hiroshima mushroom cloud! Started yesterday around 3PM due to a car accident. Initial reports had it at 100 acres. By this morning at 7:30, they reported it to be 4800 acres!!!!!

Holy hell!

I know a lot has to burn though there is so much potential for catastrophe. Can't drive Highway 49 out of Oakhurst without seeing the overwhelming loss of dead stands of Evergreens ready for a spark, and the many houses for sale.

I know they have reopened at least part of sky ranch road. Not sure if all the way to Fresno Dome.
