They closed 41 and the Valley so the traffic does not get in the way and the fire fighters who are going to make the stand at Yosemite West!!! at this time the fire is still not as bad as the Detwiler as last year! the smoke is still not at once you pass the Jones store, and until today the sky's were blue in Oakhusrt, it is all about where the wind blows. It is still super hot here is Oakhurst, thanks god for the swimming holes and shady climbs :-)

Morning, Blue sky's here in Oakhurst today for the first time in a long time. Yosemite Valley reopens this Tuesday 120/140 gates reopen but 41 will remain closed. Been climbing at the Balls and with no smoke but the loggers are busy by the Night Watch area. Still hot here but if you are thinking to come up here to climb, things are way better here!!! Hope to run in to you guys this season, happy climbing Mike A.

Glad to hear it Mike! Did those blue skies remain? Has there really been no smoke regularly at the Balls? I would like to see photos. Gee, if only there were a way.... hint hint.

Well, in a quick hunt to answer my own question, here's what I found just now: looking out from Mammoth Mountain — Top of Mammoth Mountain — 11,053 feet elevation.

Top of Mammoth Mountain
Pretty smokey looking - ugh.

That smoke for that camera is mostly from original fire in the San Joaquin drainage. The Donnell and Mendocino fires were blowing east mostly, but the inversion does bring some of that locally and settled in the valley and rises during the day. Hot and dry forecast this weekend.

The summit Mammoth Mountain cam is fun, if nobody else is using it, you can control which direction it looks and zoom.
