Old Drawing Of Balloon Dome...maybe?
« on: October 09, 2018, 10:30:23 am »
I have been reading Up And Down California, a collection of letters from William Brewer regarding his travels during the earliest California Geological Survey around the early 1860's. There is a drawing by one of the people with the survey that was titled "Canyon of the Upper San Joaquin" that caught my eye. Looks like Balloon Dome from the Cassidy Meadow area if you ask me but there are no other comments on this that I could find. I wish the comments in the corner were readable.

Check it out:

By Charles Hoffman
Note: I know this guy is the Hoffman of which Mount Hoffman in Yosemite was named after and I suspect he is possibly has something  to do with the Hoffman Mountain out past Wishon in Woodchuck Wilderness. Hmmm...?

That's Balloon Dome. The old French Trail went through there and followed the traditional native route that had been used for thousands of years.
