Shady Crags

Any recommendations? It is getting really hot again and I have a painfully short list of shady places to climb that are out of the sun.

I love Gray Eagle since it has shade all day at the base but there must be more places. Few formations face North. I think of examples every once in a while but am currently drawing a blank. All I can think of are formations with short North-facing backsides like Golden Toad, Tempest. Not many on Shuteye Ridge.

Courtwright has some. Also the left side of Hawk and Fresno Domes.

Good one, High Eagle does have a North-ish side on the onionskin side but not too many routes. I now remember freezing my ass off over there last Spring.

I am talking about finding mid day shade. Late shade is easier to find and fortunately caters to our late sleeping schedule too.

Yes on the Echo Wall. Also some shade can be found on the Million Dollar Mile. There are also numerous caves to boulder or climb. The all face north and stay very cool.

Say no more, Davey.  But lower elevation like that is hotter, even with shade.

The Eagle Beaks offers shade and sun.

Aerie and the east facing wall of High Eagle get shade even in the late morning on.

South Park gets shade.

Much of Queen Throne goes to shade at varying points in even the early afternoon as do many large formations that are also mostly east facing at some point in the afternoon, often seems by mid afternoon.

Chase shade by going to a formation with climbing on all sides.
