A good overview map of Soyo showing formations?
« on: January 19, 2014, 10:30:14 pm »
Ideally a FS road map combined with a climbing overview map!

Anyone have any good ones online?

Trying to look at formations and determine relative distance from other formations isn't always easy.

Thanks!

Make your own on Google Earth. The FS maps don't refer to many formations by their climbing names if at all.

well, if you want me to do the work, just say so. ;)

I was just looking at pics of the "South Park" area. Totally looks like Burst Rock granite off Hwy 108.

John, if you don't already have this in the works, then you're truly slacking (or climbing too much).  :)

Not climbing enough so no excuse!

I do have a Google Earth file with my settings saved for my notes but not very useful to anyone else. There are notations like  "looks cool" or "new area-right" or "recon 10-15-2011". I don't really label everything since it gets too jumbled too quickly. Not even sure how to export it either.

Love the pioneering spirit of the notations you mention. You should definitely name a crag "Looks Cool" (esp. if the rock turns out to be not so hot)!

So according to your theme, the good ones should be named the opposite..."Choss Hill" would be an excellent crag. Keeps the less adventurous away.

Hmmm gotta keep with the theme...

I would like to see a "Worst Route On ______" route before we can vote for worst formations. I do have my votes for sure.

Already exists, on at least one formation.
