It was Paul's Bday on Saturday. We ran up to the valley and got on Bishop's Terrace. Such a fun route. We decided to move to a different area for a multi-pitch. As soon as we left the parking spot Paul said, "This is probably a bad idea." It was. We literally couldn't find another parking spot.  The falls were beautiful.

We decided to bail from the valley and give Fresno Dome a try away from crowds. Snow still blocks the road to the main trail head but we made Fresno Dome Camp Ground and Hawk Dome trail easy. Hiked up and ran up South Pillar....Never gets old.

A stop at South Gate on the way back made for a great day. The fish tacos are on point.

Happy birthday Paul! Sounds like a great time! Agreed, that is a favorite route.

We might have run into you in the Valley except we were were west at Manure Pile. To be able to walk right up to it with no one ahead on Nutcracker again, rare, but we did that last weekend and back in January. A great first climb after a long hiatus I was tuckered after. Beautiful in the Valley, but yes way crowded. We went to our campsite early to park it wanting to escape traffic! Was worth it having lucked out with the views from our campsite of Half Dome and Washington Column.

Hi all snowed yesterday, drinking coffee looking out at Deadwood summit and Shuteye looks pretty white up there, snow level below 3000', so glad I climbed Sunday at Hawk Dome! I am sure by this weekend most of that snow will be gone! I am super psyched on the climbing season this year and go back up there this weekend, happy climbing Mike A.

Fire just reported at Speckerman Mountain which is 2.3 miles west of Fresno Dome and 1.4 miles west of Fresno Dome camp ground. Speckerman lies between 5S38 and 6S07 (Big Sandy turn by FD Camp Ground). Hope they get it taken care of quick. It will get smokey up there if it gets raging which will probably smoke out the Balls and possibly the northern parts of Shuteye.

Signal Peak has called in report of a smoke column on Rd 5S38 near Speckerman Mountain

Paul and Victor went up and did South Pillar on Saturday. They were stopped by the large snow drift where the road bends right by the creek. They walked the road from there. Paul reported very little snow on top with a drift at the base near Whiskey Bill I believe. They had no problem walking to SP and running up it.

Nice way to say that Ger, about the birds and bees...  Same time frame, we noticed lots of bumblebees too around Jackass. Skeeters weren’t  bad yet, and that’s saying something since I’m their magnet. Glad to hear you guys got out there.
