Welcome 5.6!

Not sure about the skeets, but NOAA.gov clickable map shows an area weather forecast for almost 6,500 ft elev:

Independence
Day Sunny height=86
Sunny
High: 85 °F

   Saturday
Sunny height=86
Sunny
High: 86 °F

Sunday
Sunny height=86 Sunny
High: 86 °F

There is some detail about breezes of at least 5 mph daily to gusts of 15mph nights, good for keeping the skeets away.

I would like to know too 5.6.

At Gray camp (camping at Gray Eagle) breezes did not blow and the skeets were thirsty and many.Boo.Other areas were much better last weekend.

Hey all - thanks for the tips. We ended up at wawona dome instead. Man, what a bush whack that was! Plenty of 5.6 to be had, but with an adventurous approach. One of my partners had a map from an old guidebook, a dotted line 'overland' trail. I'll watch out for those from now on ;) But good fun, we even found a waterfall / pool to dip in on the way down.

And the mosquitoes - were active in the shade, but disappeared as you got up to the rock / breeze. Not bad!

We actually never found the trail on the way down (we did for some of the way up). The ridges were pretty easy to see to stay oriented, so that helped.

We had wanted to climb to the top, but ran out of gusto, so just did a couple presumably unnamed easy single pitches, what you see in the pictures. We'll have to get back up there again to get to the top!

Thanks for posting Laura! Looks like all's well that ends well. That pool looks like a great reward. I wonder what those climbs are in the photos...

Yah, Wawona has some B-Whackin for sure. No sqeeters at Fresno Dome. Creeks are dry and breeze keeps them at bay.

Where did you start your hike to Wo Dome?  Have you seen Eric's website for Wawona Dome?

Good to hear! Was just wondering about Fresno Dome. I guess just park it low down to walk to Hawk as the drive to the top is probably still snowy.

Ended up pretty windy most the weekend, so not bad for bugs and heat. Tried the road to Lost Eagle and gave up early because there was too much snow on the road way before the turnoff. Looks like someone attempted to  bust through though. Wonder how they fared.

Yes. Just passed FD camp ground, where we had Lunesta, there is a lefthand hairpin turn. Park there and follow trail. 15-20 approach uphill. Easy coming out.
